This Year’s Featured Property: A Custom, Green-Built Craftsman Bungalow in West Asheville

An artist’s rendering of the home, featuring signature Craftsman details such as a low-pitched gabled roof and overhanging eaves with simple, clean lines defining the exterior.
The sketch of the original home plan from the book where the owner/designer found it, “Guaranteed Building Plans” by William Radford. The home can be found on page 117 of that book, which is still in print and may be available at your local library. The book describes the property as “very attractive in finish and appearance.” We couldn’t agree more!

We’re excited to introduce this year’s Parade of Homes entry from JAG Construction: a cozy Craftsman-style bungalow with historic charm on the outside and modern style indoors. With a design based on an original 1915 architectural plan by American architect William Radford, this green-built custom home is the perfect example of tradition and innovation in harmony.

Featuring four bedrooms and three baths at 2,225 finished square feet, this private home in West Asheville was designed with love by its owner, interior designer Tamara Gavin of the Made Home. While the exterior of the home is a love letter to the early 20th century, the interior feels fresh and modern, with an open floor plan in the main living area on the first floor, inspired by Scandinavian design and featuring natural finishes. As part of its green-built credibility, this home uses lumber harvested from the property in addition to other materials found on the site, including recycled glass bottles, metal, and cardboard.

The home will be open to Parade of Homes visitors from 11am – 5pm on October 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th. Please park along Lanning and walk down Foggy Hollow Trail.
