This Classic Mountain Craftsman home was built in the Swannanoa Mountains just east of Asheville. It is part of the High Hickory subdivision which features great wooded mountain sites with incredible views north toward the Black Mountains and Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi. The sloping lot required a walk-out basement as well as a suspended garage slab. The owner used the additional space under the garage to create a woodshop. The exterior featured a traditional post-and-beam constructed front porch by Ivy Creek Timberframes. The exterior also featured poplar bark siding which is a material simply made from real poplar bark, flattened and dried in a specific manner. It yields an exterior cladding that is very durable and long-lasting that literally blends in with the surrounding poplar trees.
